RNM Systems assist ESS to mobilise Camp Chevron in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina

Chevron Texaco has opened a tent city within a few miles of its Pascagoula Refinery in Alabama USA. The 500,000 square foot camp provides enough beds for up to 1,500 refinery employees and their families whose homes were destroyed or severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

Chevron called upon ESS who is Chevron's global provider for facilities catering management, to support the huge mobilisation project. In turn ESS asked RNM Systems to assist in the project by providing the software solution to manage the allocation of accommodation throughout the camp. RNM did this using its online room and resource booking software – Condeco.

Condeco is a web-based solution that has enabled Chevron administrators to manage the booking of beds, rooms and chalets as well as guest information for the 1500 employees now housed at the camp. Administrators simply enter the date and length of stay, together with any special requirements into the system and the software allocates the best accommodation available for the guest’s particular needs.

Rahul Mathur, Head of Technology for ESS comments:

“Condeco has proved invaluable to this immense project. Managing the number of guests within the camp was a real challenge and Condeco has provided us with a perfect solution. We are now able to locate the available accommodation as well as report on usage and guest movements. Without Condeco the camp could soon become very chaotic.”

RNM embraced the challenge to tailor and deliver a solution for the camp in 48 hours. Managing Director, Paul Statham adds “It was certainly a tight timeframe but we are delighted to have been involved in such a project and I’m proud to say that my team delivered an excellent solution in record time.”

Like a massive mobile hotel, Chevron's tent city is providing full services, including water, catering, power, satellite communications, sewage treatment, medical services, bedding and laundry.

It is estimated that between 15 to 25 percent of Pascagoula employees lost everything to Hurricane Katrina, which battered the Gulf Coast earlier in the month. An additional, and significant, number of employees' homes have been seriously damaged.

Chevron plans to run the camp as long as it's needed.
